Reddit stops answering

The Reddit ingest went to zero. Not degraded, not slow: every request returning 403, for any client, with or without a key. Reddit had deprecated unauthenticated access to the JSON endpoints that the poller was built on, so there was nothing to fix at our end and nothing to retry into.

The second context feed died the same afternoon, for a different reason: a Cloudflare block in front of the API, no free tier behind it, and no working RSS route from the container. Two independent failures on one afternoon, which is the kind of coincidence that makes you check whether it really is one.

Neither feed can wake the committee. Both are context-only tier, so the direct cost of losing them is zero trades. The indirect cost is the thing worth watching: a smaller input stream means fewer events to triage, and the scout's daily call volume did fall by about a third the following week. That link is suspected rather than proven.

The uncomfortable part is not the outage. It is that the desk did not stop, did not complain, and looked entirely healthy the whole time. A feed that goes quiet produces fewer findings, and fewer findings is not an error state. The channel health monitor exists precisely because this failure mode has no symptoms.

Reddit came back a week later on a different transport. Stocktwits stayed dark.
